This is my conclusion after using selincro for the first time.
I am writing it as a follow up, and in the hope it will be useful to someone.
As i already said in a previous post, i usually don' t drink high alcohol content spirits and can't drink over several days on a row, like many alcoholics do. I am a binge drinker to the point of black out and then will not drink for several days. My major problem however is the self harming stuff i do when drunk, or did, as i have been able to control this for over a year now.
I decided to try selincro, in the hope that reducing the quantity of alcohol, i would not drink to the point where i would black out. WRONG!
This is what happened:
My first mistake was, that i did not take it as prescribed a few hours before, but only after the second beer.
After about half an hour i noticed a change. I can say this for sure, because i usually write poetry when inebriated, but what i wrote this time came from a different place, it had a different feel to it, one i had not experienced before. After that things went very fast. I don' t remember exactly when I started gambling, sometime after the seventh beer. As I have said before, I have been in control of this for over a year, ever since I had to take out two loans to cover my gambling debt and out of fear of ruin. But this time I did it again.
I do not remember exactly when I went to bed, but it was unusual to black out sometime during or after the eighth beer, so yes i did drink less. But the inebriating effect came faster and more concentrated.
Therefore, if you are someone whose only problem is that you drink too much, but have NO OTHER BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS RELATED TO ALCOHOL and you know in advance, when you will be drinking, or at least can postpone drinking for a few hours after taking the pill, then you might try this drug. BUT BEWARE, that the disinhibiting effect of alcohol, the point where you loose control, will kick in faster and you will not be prepared for that.
Based on my unfortunate experience, I clearly can not recommend selincro to anyone!
Did selincro cause my behaviour? Definitely NO.
Did selincro trigger my behaviour: definitely NO ( i had a fight with my friend that day, this being a usual pattern)
Did selincro aggravate my behaviour? Clearly YES.
For over a year I have used alcohol and been drunk regularly, but have been able to control other behaviours. The inebriating effect with selincro was almost like taking lorazepam and drinking, which you should never, absolutely never ever do! Iam aware that this is a dangerous comparison, but that ' s what I felt like for a while.. Fortunately with selincro you DO DRINK LESS and it's a drug designed for alcoholics to this effect. Had i not blacked out so soon, I would have gambled a lot more! So this an essential difference! Combining Lorazepam and alcohol poses a serious life threat and to be avoided absolutely.
There was not much of a hangover, but the anxiety and fear, generated by my loosing control again, were much worse than any hangover.
Indeed, maybe this summes it up: HAD I NOT BLACKED OUT SO SOON, I WOULD HAVE GAMBLED AND LOST A LOT MORE.
So, this is it.
I hope you will post this, to protect others from making the same mistakes as i did.

Hi, thank you, i wanted to reply to your (admin) question from my post of today 29.03 under the topic feedback. ( that is locked now)
I was prescribed Selincro by a psychiatrist in a specialized clinic for alcohol and drug addiction treatment in Bukarest, (ALIaT is the alliance for the fight against alcoholism and drug addiction)Romania. I fully described my condition to him, including my drinking patterns and especially my self harming behaviour, like gambling and bodily self harming.
I think i could imagine trying selincro out a second time, but only under direct supervision, at least by a friend, if not in a closed center.
